Positive reinforcement is the key to train any dog successfully. It is a proven and the best method to train any dog effectively. The next important thing is timing. So, if you can make the right timing to train your border collie with the positive approach, then there’s a cent percent chance of hitting the success because these dogs have natural instinct to please their master.
Just like you reward good behaviors of your border collie with treats, you should also behave in the similar way for negative behaviors too. This doesn’t mean that you should provide treats to your dog for such negative behaviors, but actually you should deal with calm nature and some kindness. Instead of beating or punishing your border collie, just turn your eye away from him and ignore him until he finally realizes that the activity he’s doing is not pleasing you. He will immediately stop that behavior to attract your attention. Also, never forget to reward him when he obeys you either by giving treats or by saying motivating words like “good boy”, “good puppy”, etc.
Border collies are intelligent dogs with quick learning capability. They can learn anything so quickly that you need to avoid him to learn any negative behaviors from their early period. If you forbid unacceptable behaviors from the time when they are puppy, they will become a good obedient dog later on. The problem with most of the dog owners is that they just don’t mind their small puppy mistakes. As puppy look innocent and cute in their puppyhood, they just pity on their puppy and let go these things as an excuse. These kind of excuses turn out to be the big problems when the puppy grows up. Also, it becomes very hard to reprimand such bad behaviors later on.
So, train early and be happy forever.
While you are teaching your border collie obedience, you should also take notice of small things that matters a lot while dealing with your dog. For instance-your border collie’s name. Your dog’s name is the most powerful tool to keep him focus in the training and making conversation with him as well. So, when you utter your dog’s name from your mouth, always be positive. Don’t kick him after calling his name or ignore him. When you call your dog’s name, welcome him with love and care. Give him something to play with or eat. If you don’t have anything, you can still caress him by playing your fingers around his neck. These things make him feel that good things happen when his name is called. So, he will always come running towards you when you call his name.
No one can learn anything at once. So, you need to be patient and work with continuous effort. With the combination of persistence, consistency and positive reinforcements, you can become the master to train any dogs. Border collies are intelligent dogs that obey when deal with positivity. So, don’t let your dog to become destructive and abnormal by instilling fear into their mind. Stay and train them as your friend and soon you will find your border collie as your best friend.
